It’s that time of year again! The air is starting to turn crisp, pumpkins are exploding across every retail store, and your photographer reminds you to book a family photo session ASAP. Christmas card time will be here before you know it!

Family photo outfits can be the most stressful part of the process if you aren’t prepared! I’m here to help. I put together 3 different color schemes for your family pictures. Just choose the one you love the most, and start shopping.

A few tips to keep in mind:

  1. Mix and match, don’t be “matchy”. When everyone is wearing the exact same thing, your family photos end up looking a little boring. Give your family members the chance to let their personalities shine, while still looking cohesive.
  2. Don’t be scared to mix patterns and solids. As long as the colors are similar, your family photo outfits will blend perfectly!
  3. Keep it simple. Avoid trendy styles that will make you cringe in 5 years. Stick with classic sweaters, dresses, and jeans and accessorize lightly! Your faces are the star of the show for your family photos.

First up, neutral family photo outfit ideas. Neutrals are great for timeless family photos that won’t be specific to one holiday or time of year. I’m showing you some fall neutrals, but they can easily be edited for summer or winter.

Christmas family photo outfit ideas are even more fun to style! Here I’ve used a burgundy color palette as the focus, mixed with blacks and neutrals. The burgundy can be switched out for Christmas red or deep green.

My last family photo outfit idea uses olive green tones. Probably one of my favorite color palettes! Olive green is often considered a neutral because of it’s ability to mix well with tons of other colors. Makes for beautiful family pictures!
