Of all the craziness that happened in 2020, one good thing that happened was the evolution of “athleasure” wear. Athletic clothing that can be worn to the gym, but also re-styled to wear around the house, running errands, or to school drop-off and pick-up! Sounds like a win to every mom I know! 😀 How to wear biker shorts is a bit trickier though.
Biker shorts are a newer trend that has thrown people for a loop, me included. I thought they looked weird and had no idea what to wear with them. Several friends mentioned the same issue to me, so I decided to go out on a limb and try styling them for myself.
I grabbed my first pair from Amazon, and decided to go with white after seeing another blogger style them beautifully. I liked the neutral look! These had 5-star reviews and were compared to the more expensive Lululemon style.
I had tons of fun styling these. Think of them as “short leggings” instead of bike shorts, and you will discover how many things actually go with them! They are a great style for postpartum moms as well, since they provide support and extra compression.
I created a styling video on Instagram with the white shorts, and it became one of my most-viewed posts. While the white was popular, I realized black would be more practical. Spanx has a pair that I grabbed and compared to the cheaper Amazon style. Spanx definitely sucked my stomach in better than the cheap ones, and also gave my booty a nice lift! I sized up two sizes though. They run very tight, so be aware! I’m wearing a medium in these photos, and a small in the Amazon version.
Spanx also makes a faux leather version of the biker shorts that is literally a short version of their ever-popular leggings. The faux leather style runs true-to-size so I don’t recommend sizing up if you order them.
Sweatshirts, oversized t-shirts, chambray tunics, high top sneakers, slide sandals,… the list goes on! If you wore it with leggings in the fall and winter, you can probably wear it with biker shorts this spring and summer. Hopefully this inspired you to try a new style!
As always, I’d love to see how you wore it! Tag me on Instagram (@BarbiGia) and I’ll be sure to share.
