Spring Capsule Wardrobe for Busy Moms

It’s no secret I love fashion, and I love adding new pieces to my wardrobe. I could spend hours trying on new styles and playing with design! Sometimes the simple approach is much easier though, especially for busy moms. The older my boys get, the less time I have to linger in my closet every morning. This year I decided to put together a basic capsule wardrobe for spring. I looked for easy-to-wear, durable items that can mix-and-match together to create limitless outfits!

Here’s everything you need this spring:

A versatile cotton dress in a simple color and pattern. You will get TONS of wear out of this dress! Throw on a cute blazer and heels for a spring wedding, or a utility jacket and boots for church or work meetings. Once the weather warms up, drop the jacket and add sandals plus your favorite tote bag!

A pair of casual boyfriend jeans. If you’ve been reading my blog/ following me on social media for any period of time, you know how I feel about boyfriend jeans! 😉 They are so comfy and easy to throw on with pretty much any top. Add a cozy sweater, or a long-sleeved tee plus a jacket for the end of winter. In the spring dress them up with a button-front blouse and booties. They can even be worn into summer with all your basic tee’s and they look REAL cute over a bathing suit. Just saying!

A durable utility jacket. This is probably the most worn item in my closet. I wear mine from September to December (I can get away with that in the south… once we move north, not so much!), and again from late February through May! It’s the perfect weight for breezy, cool days when you don’t want or need to wear a heavy coat. The olive green color is the most versatile, in my opinion, but khaki or camel would also go with just about anything!

A light weight button-up blouse. This is a newer trend for me, but I’m loving it! I found this cute pink and white striped blouse and knew it would blend into my wardrobe seamlessly. Half-tuck it into your jeans, or tie up the front for a cute spring look. You can also wear it unbuttoned over a camisole or t-shirt dress! I also grabbed an olive green one that looks so cute with black jeans or a floral dress.

A pair of low-heeled boots. If you don’t already have a pair of neutral booties, buy a pair now! I promise you will get so much wear out of them. Neutral is key! A beige or nude color goes with everything and will elongate your legs. Pair them with short dresses, cuffed jeans, skinny jeans, leggings, maxi dresses,… you get the idea!

A few spring sweaters. The end of winter (aka, now) is the best time to buy pretty but warm sweaters that can be worn into spring. Choose pastels or light neutrals (grey, beige, cream) and size up if you want to wear them with skinny jeans or leggings. I picked a fun bright yellow and blush pink! They look great with my dark wash jeans now, but will also pair with white jeans or cutoff shorts in a few weeks.

A pair of white jeans. White jeans can be worn in winter now (thanks, fashion bloggers!) but I still prefer to save mine for spring. Maybe next year I’ll be more adventurous! There are countless ways to style white jeans, and YES you can wear them even with small children running around! Do I wear mine around the house? No. But I wear them to church, date night, girls night, school meetings, and basically everywhere else you can think of besides the gym. I have a loose-fitting distressed pair for running around, and a non-distressed skinny pair for dressing up.

A denim jacket. I probably don’t need to explain this one! A jean jacket has been a closet staple since high school (hello, 2007!). It’s the perfect layer for chilly mornings, can be worn with basically everything in your closet, and hides food stains from chubby baby hands. What more can you ask for? I recently updated to a light-wash style and I love that it can be worn with black or white jeans for a little bit of contrast.
