Valentine’s Day for Toddlers

My real Valentine is thousands of miles away this year (that military life ya’ll) so I’m celebrating with my secondary Valentines who are just a tiny bit shorter. And maybe a little cuter.  😉 Just kidding!

Teaching Sammy about love is my focus for the next month. He’s too little to understand deep concepts, but we are starting small with a few amazing books I found. If you haven’t discovered the “God Gave Us” series by Lisa Tawn Bergren, you should definitely take a look! We received one of her books when Sammy was a baby and I’ve been a fan ever since. They are beautifully illustrated and the stories are simple, but profound.

Of course, I couldn’t let the holiday pass without trying a craft project! Maybe it’s a boy thing, but it takes a LOT of effort to interest him in any artistic play. He’s an analytical thinker like his daddy! Not to mention high-energy. Neither of those traits mix well with crafts. I gave it my best shot with a cute felt heart banner from Target. Once I showed him how to pull the cord through the holes, he was on-board! It was so cute to watch him concentrate, and he was very excited to hang his banner in our family room.

Our next activity is decorating a valentine box with stickers and foam shapes. Mess-free and easy! I’m not planning on giving him gifts for Valentine’s Day, but we will be sending cards to his grandparents and cousins.

Valentine’s Day might be a made-up holiday, but it’s still the perfect opportunity to teach your preschooler about the concept of loving one another! Hopefully I gave you some good ideas for your kiddos, and as always please leave a comment or tag me (@BarbiGia) if you share your inspiration from my post!
